Army Clears More Boko Haram Camps In Borno

Troops of the Nigerian army operating in Bama axis on a fighting patrol have cleared Boko Haram terrorists out of Aulari general area located within the Sambisa forest.

According to a statement issued by Colonel Sani Usman, the director of army public relations, the troops cleared all the four camps located within the area: Faldan, Kidiziromari, Kuroshini, Kurumari and Ngulda.

During the military operation one member of the Boko Haram sect was killed while trying to escape and about 31 people were rescued from the insurgents.

“The troops discovered stockpile of farm produce in metal drums, sacks and underground storage facilities. Other items recovered included several bicycles and motorcycles. Some of the farmlands yet to be harvested were also set ablaze by the terrorists. A wooden rifle used for training and practice by the terrorists was also retrieved.”

In a related development, troops of 7 Division Garrison conducted eight fighting patrols along Leje Axis.

Usman said that the troops cleared the area and about 15 other villages around Leje. They include Khadadamamari, Ladin Buta, Hilmari, Kashauri, Keshan Ngala, Aiwa, Masu Kura, Mabirni, Grza 1 and 2, Mashuari, Dubenge, Tauba and Majande.

“Troops also pursued and destroyed 2 Boko Haram terrorists on motor cycles. Troops have also blocked all known routes to prevent Boko Haram Terrorists from transporting livestock across borders. All these are with a view to stopping the Boko Haram from fueling their terror machines through cattle rustling and illegal trading,”he said.

Usman called on Nigerians to continue providing security agencies with credible information about all known and suspected terrorists.

How Dokpesi Was Shielded When He Arrived Kuje Prison

Media mogul and owner of Daar Communications, High Chief Raymond Dokpesi was taken to Kuje prison yesterday, December 14, pending when he perfects his bail terms.

Justice Gabriel Kolawole had granted the media mogul bail. The conditions for bail are N200 million each (N400m) by two sureties and the judge ordered that he should be remanded in Kuje prisons pending the fulfillment of his bail conditions.

The Nation reports that Dokpesi arrived at the prison at about 4.55pm and was taken immediately to the prison chief’s office.

A source who spoke on condition of anonymity said: “We have received Dokpesi in Kuje Prison and perfected his records before allocating him a cell.

“Upon sighting Dokpesi, most of the inmates who were abreast of the ongoing anti-corruption trials, were anxious to see him.

“But we decided to keep him in the office of the Officer-In-Charge to avoid being hurt by some inmates. Warders succeeded in shielding him from inmates.”

According to the source, the media mogul was moody when he was brought in.

Dokpesi is standing trial for a six-count charge of money laundering and other fraud related charges. He is alleged to have received about N2.1billion from the office of the National Security Adviser for the Peoples Democratic Party’s ‎presidential media campaign.‎

He is facing trial ‎alongside ‎his firm, DAAR Investment and Holdings Ltd, owners of African Independent Television, AIT, and Raypower FM.

Sony will allegedly only have two major, Snapdragon 820 device releases in 2016

With the Holiday season almost upon us, it is definitely not too early to think about 2016 and discuss what the industry has in store for us. Sony's upcoming lineup has already been subject to a lot of rumors, the most significant of which details a total of five models in the Xperia Z6 family, covering a broad range of display sizes form 4.0 inches all the way up to 6.4.

However, industry sources now hint at the possibility for a different development, including a total of four device releases, two of which major ones, throughout 2016. This entails that the alleged 4-inch Z6 Mini won't become a reality and the lineup will consist of an Xperia Z6, Z6 Compact, Z6 Plus and Z6 Ultra. The rumor also states that two of those will be flagship releases and run on Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820 SoC.

Furthermore, the two major device releases are said to come a few months apart – one in June and the other one in October 2016, to be exact. Design-wise, the new lineup will allegedly incorporate a lot of Metal for a fresh new look.

This new prediction coincides with a recently leaked T-Mobile release roadmap, so it might just hold some water. Hopefully, we will learn more on the topic at Sony's CES press conference, which has already been set for January 5. Until then, your guess on the future of Sony's mobile division is just as good as ours.

6" Samsung Galaxy A9 leaks in detail: Snapdragon 620 and a 4,000mah battery

Samsung Galaxy A9 will be joining the recently announced A3, A5, and A7 models of the refreshed Galaxy A (2016) lineup. The smartphone leaked via official promo pictures and is expected to go official later this month.

The Galaxy A9 is going to feature a 6" Super AMOLED screen of 1080p resolution and run on the Snapdragon 620 chipset with 3GB of RAM. The 620 platform offers a powerful octa-core 1.8GHz processor with 4x Cortex-A72 and 4x Cortex-A53 cores, while the GPU in charge of graphics is Adreno 510.

The Galaxy A9 will be following the trend established by the smaller A3, A5, and A7 from the 2016 lineup and will be built around a metal frame and dual 2.5D glass panels.

The rest of the specs of the Galaxy A9 include a 13MP rear camera with optical image stabilization and bright f/1.9 aperture. There is also an 8MP selfie snapper with support for panoramic pictures, 32GB expandable storage, LTE Cat.7 connectivity, and a 4,000 mAh battery.

With such a beefy juice pack, the Galaxy A9 is touted to feature power bank capabilities. Those should be supported natively by Android 6.0 Marshmallow, but the Galaxy A9 will be launching on 5.1.1 Lollipop, so we can't confirm this feature availability just yet.

Finally, the Galaxy A9 will support Samsung Pay and will feature a fingerprint scanner. It will be launching on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, but a Marshmallow update is scheduled for the months post the release.

Samsung Galaxy A9 is expected to go official very soon and hit the stores around Christmas or in early January. The price in China will be north of CNY 3,000, which means more than €430.

Mavin Boss, Don Jazzy signed two rappers

Don Jazzy,The Mavin Records boss has a long history of discovering raw talents, and developing them to superstars, but in his long history, he has never worked with a rapper.

Don Jazzy admitted to Pulse that he has two rap acts signed to his label, and will unveil them to the public when the time is right.

“I have two rappers signed, but it is not yet time to unveil them. When the time is right, I will.” Don Jazzy revealed.

Don Jazzy currently has five singers signed to Mavin Records. They include MAMA winning singer Tiwa Savage, Bestselling pop acts Dr. SID and D’Prince, Mavin super trio Reekado Banks, Korede Bello and D’iJa . e had earlier worked with Wande Coal and D’banj.

Don Jazzy has also revealed that he is open to working with D’banj.

The pair were once owners of the defunct music label, Mohits Records, but fell out in 2011 due to irreconcilable differences.

They have since patched up in 2015, with the pair engaging at a number of events. The high point came at the MAMA 2015, when D’banj in a stunning move shocked the continent by dedicating his ‘MAMA Evolution’ award to his ex-business partner.

“Of course I will work with D’banj.” The Mavin Record boss told Pulse. “But we have been too busy. He is travelling to a lot of places, and I am working with my artistes. But we will work together.”

Google announces YouTube Gaming, its competitor for Twitch

The rumors were true, as it turns out. After it didn’t manage to purchase Twitch last year (which eventually got grabbed by Amazon), Google is launching a competing service. It’s called YouTube Gaming (and not YouTube Live as previously leaked), and it will become available “this summer”. YouTube Gaming will first be offered in the US and UK.

It will come with a new website and app, which will feature gaming-related videos and live streams, powered by what Google calls “the biggest community of gamers on the web”.

People are already using YouTube to post gaming videos, and this will give them a dedicated home. More than 25,000 games will each have their own page on YouTube Gaming, which will collect the best videos and live streams about that particular title. The service will also have channels from game developers and YouTube creators.

You’ll be able to easily add a game to your collection, letting you quickly get to the latest videos about it. As for channels, you’ll subscribe to get notified when they start a live stream. Recommendations will be shown to you based on the games you like, and search inside YouTube Gaming will be restricted to game-related queries.

“In the coming weeks” it will become simpler to upload your gameplay to YouTube, thanks to “an improved live experience”. And you won’t need to schedule a live event ahead of time anymore. Furthermore, you will get a single link you can share for all your streams.

Amazon releases its first report on government requests for user data

Following other US tech giants – including Google, Twitter, and Facebook, Amazon has released its first transparency report, revealing government requests for user information it received for the period January 1, 2015, through May 31, 2015.

As per the report, the e-commerce giant received 813 subpoenas and 25 search warrants during the period, and it responded fully to only 542 and 13 of them, respectively. In addition, the company also received 13 court orders, 0-249 national security requests, 132 non-US requests, and 1 removal request.

“While we recognize the legitimate needs of law enforcement agencies to investigate criminal and terrorist activity, and cooperate with them when they observe legal safeguards for conducting such investigations, we oppose legislation mandating or prohibiting security or encryption technologies that would have the effect of weakening the security of products, systems, or services our customers use,” said Stephen Schmidt, chief information security officer for Amazon Web Services.

He also claimed that the company never participated in the NSA’s PRISM program.

Windows 10 kicks off on July 29

Microsoft announced today the official availability of the upcoming Windows 10 – July 29. That’s less than two months from now, which means Microsoft has nothing left to do but polish a few edges.

Windows 10 will introduce universal apps, Cortana, Microsoft Edge browser to replace the Internet Explorer, new Office 2016 included in Windows 10 for free, Xbox Live app and integration, new multimedia apps, among others.

The major OS update will also include a better Windows Store, Windows Hello login, and continuum functionality for easy switching between tablet and PC interfaces on convertibles.

As of now, if you own a Windows Phone smartphone you can ask Cortana about the Windows 10 release date and she’ll give you an answer.

Windows 10 comes on July 29 and will be a free upgrade. In fact, if you have a Windows 8-running PC or slate, as of today you can notice a new Windows icon next to your clock. It will allow you to reserve your Windows 10 update and will download it for you the minute it becomes available. Neat!

Oppo is now an official partner of FC Barcelona for three years

Tie-ups between smartphone makers and football teams are nothing new, as you may know. But this is the first we’ve seen Oppo go this route. The Chinese company has inked a partnership agreement with FC Barcelona, one of the biggest football clubs on the planet.

Intel brings more graphics power to new fifth generation Core, quad-core processors

Intel has managed to maintain supremacy on the CPU front for quite some time now. The company has built such a formidable reputation for itself, that it is truly a household name. Few people, however, tend to associate the chip maker with graphics and beastly GPU performance.

With its fifth generation Broadwell architecture, Intel pushed the envelope even further in terms of power to performance ratios. Yet, if you want a truly capable onboard graphics solution, Intel chips typically get outshined by what AMD’s APUs have to offer. The California company has been trying hard to bridge this gap in performance and its latest additions to the Broadwell lineup are a testament to this effort.

A total of five new chips were showcased at Computex 2015. They all employ the 14nm Broadwell architecture, but are bundled with new Intel Iris Pro 6200 Graphics chipsets. The new GPU chips promises impressive performance gains, while still retaining the all-important power-efficiency. To quote the presentation

The new lineup consists of two desktop models, bearing the “C” moniker and working on LGA1150 socket and three mobile chips with an “R” in the name, intended for a BGA1364 socket. The 6 all have a TDP of 65W and have four physical cores, which is a first for the Broadwell line. But, this is not the only novelty in the new models. This is actually the first time Intel has included its Iris Pro graphics series in desktop silicon. This definitely shows a level of confidence in their performance. As far as pricing goes, nothing has been officially announced yet, but, previous rumors hint at a price of about $479.99 for the top of the line Core i7-5775C and $349.99 for the Core i5-5675C. Currently, the Core i7-4790K and Core i5-4690K cost around $339 and $242, so, there is quite a substantial premium to be paid. Still, the new models are quite a viable choice for any build that does not require a dedicated GPU.

Nintendo NX game console will not run Android after all

Yesterday, it was reported about a possibility that Nintendo will adopt Google’s Android platform for its upcoming game console codenamed NX.

However, today a company spokesperson refuted the claims and stated that there is no truth to the report. No reasons were cited for not using Android for NX game console. There goes a possibility of having yet another Android game console down the drain.

If Nintendo had adopted Android platform, they would not only have an access to an ecosystem having large audience with different devices but also a large number of developers. However, Nintendo seems to be working on something of its own.

This means that in all likeliness the Nintendo’s NX console will sport a custom operating system. There’s no assurance whether the rumored mobile games sync will be supported with NX either.
